Introduction BenQ PD3200U Monitor
I’ve said many times before that people want their screens to stand out to draw attention, and BenQ has been good at that. But we’ve all seen these screens before. They all look the same…a red, black, black-on-black, glossy, glossy-on-black, LCD. You’ve probably had a look at some of them, even seen them in video and then just given up! But let’s look at the other side of the coin – what exactly are we getting here? We’re talking about a modern LCD screen with the benefit of being LCD and that we are likely to get a higher contrast ratio than the non-LED panels (like those used in plasma TV screens and other electronic displays). The benefits of being a LCD screen are that brightness and viewing angle are easy to control, while the added benefit is that colour fidelity appears to be high.
We also have to consider the viewing angle, with LCDs not having a backlight so you get a darker image when looking down so the image can be read. Also, it’s worth noting that LCD panels are prone to some of the more common problems with modern display technology (deterioration, contrast reduction, colour gamut errors…) and for this purpose we will consider brightness and viewing angle. But first let’s look at the BenQ PD3200U.

Manufactured by BenQ, the PD3200U monitor has a brightness of up to 1500 cd/m2 and a pixel density of 109 ppi. It has a 16:9 aspect ratio, making it more suitable for high resolution media than most other monitors, such as the Dell UP3210U 27-inch monitor which has an Aspect Ratio of 1360x768. BenQ claims improved brightness, contrast and colour quality and a reduction in ghosting and other image artefacts. It also has an antiglare matte finish for more precise colour reproduction. Weighing around just 20kg, it is much lighter than most other 27-inch displays.
Display BenQ PD3200U Monitor
The BenQ PD3200U features an LED-backlit display, which makes it one of the first monitors with high Brightness (1500 cd/m2) and high Dynamic range (120% - 1000 nits).
The display offers a 17.3:9 aspect ratio, so the monitor will be most suitable for viewing HD TV content and movies on a high resolution screen. There is a 1ms response time and the display has a contrast ratio of 3000:1. The monitor's viewing angles at both horizontal and vertical angles are excellent.
Colour reproduction is pretty good too, with only some minor haloing of chrominance by the bright light of the full spectrum LED backlight on the white side of the image. This is most noticeable if you are viewing an image with a dark background like photographs, or any image that has a lot of detail or highlights in that image. You can adjust it manually in the monitor's menu, or you can open up the settings of the monitor in Adobe RGB and tweak the white point and contrast manually.
However, the monitor is not exactly the sharpest or most beautiful monitor on the market, especially if you compare it to most other LED IPS displays. It has a fairly large bezel, with a decent amount of black space between the edges of the border and the edges of the
